Biomolecule
A biomolecule is any molecule produced or used by a living organism. The four principal classes — carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids such as DNA — together build structure, store information, and drive the chemistry of life.
Formally, the biomolecules of an organism form a set drawn from a small alphabet of monomer types,
where is the set of monomer classes (sugars, fatty acids, amino acids, nucleotides) and is the space of polymers assembled from monomer class . A biomolecule is thus a member of one of the polymer spaces that life uses to encode structure and information.
