Dependent Set (Matroid)

Let $M=(E,\mathcal{I})$ be a matroid. A set $X\subseteq E$ is a dependent set of $M$ if

$$X\notin \mathcal{I}.$$

Dependence is the complement of independence inside $2^E$.
