Quantum-Mechanical System
A quantum-mechanical system is a physical system whose states are described by the formalism of quantum mechanics. Mathematically, it is associated with a complex Hilbert space , called its state space, and its physical state is represented by a unit vector , up to a global phase.
The evolution and observation of the system are governed by the postulates of quantum mechanics. In particular, a closed quantum system evolves unitarily, whereas measurements are described probabilistically by operators acting on the state space.
