Speculative Moment (Hegelian Dialectics)
In Hegelian dialectics, the speculative moment (the positive-rational) is the third and culminating moment of the dialectical movement. It follows the abstract moment and the dialectical moment, resolving their opposition into a higher unity through Aufhebung.
Unlike the dialectical moment, which is purely negative — it exposes contradiction and drives the form into its opposite — the speculative moment is affirmative. It grasps the unity of the opposed determinations and recognises that the contradiction was not a dead end but the engine of a richer, more concrete form.
