Das Absolute (the Absolute) in Hegel is the whole of reality understood as a self-contained and internally related totality, rather than as a collection of independent things.
To know the Absolute therefore means not merely to grasp some highest or ultimate object, but to understand how the different determinations of reality belong together within one systematic whole.
