Integer

An integer is a whole number that can be positive, negative, or zero, without any fractional or decimal component.

The sets of integers is denoted by $\mathbb{Z}$. It is a superset of the natural numbers, extending them to zero (depends on the definition of natural numbers) and and negative numbers. Essentially, it is:

$$\mathbb{Z}:=\{0\}\cup \bigcup _{n\in \mathbb{N}}\{n,-n\}$$
