A majority ordinarily means a strict majority: more than half of a specified group of voters support an alternative. For a supporter set within a voter set ,
The counted group must be specified, for example all eligible voters or only those casting a valid vote. Having more supporters than any other alternative is only a plurality and need not exceed half.
