Psychiatry
Psychiatry is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of mental disorders and severe psychological distress. It integrates biological, psychological, and social models and may use medication, psychotherapy, environmental interventions, and other medical treatments.
Psychiatry overlaps with psychology, but its defining scope is medical: psychiatrists assess mental health conditions in relation to the person’s health and provide or coordinate clinical care.
