Definition
Zolmitriptan
Zolmitriptan is a second-generation triptan, a selective 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist used for acute migraine treatment.
It is more lipophilic than sumatriptan, allowing faster absorption and better central nervous system penetration.
Administration
Routes
Available as oral tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, and intranasal spray.
Limitations
Contraindications
Like all triptans, it induces vasoconstriction and is contraindicated in patients with significant cardiovascular disease.
