Meningeal Vasodilation
Meningeal vasodilation is the widening of blood vessels within the meninges, the membranous layers surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
It is a hallmark of migraine attacks, driven by neuropeptides released from trigeminal nerve terminals. Triptans counteract this through 5-HT1B receptor-mediated vasoconstriction, whereas gepants block CGRP directly.
